Running with Love, Building a Better Future Together
With full support of co-organizers Sun Hung Kai Properties and Sino Group, as well as the venue sponsor Central Plaza, “Hong Chi Climbathon 2023” was held on 11th November (Saturday)! Since 2004, “Hong Chi Climbathon” has become one of the most signature charity events in Hong Kong, attracting over ten thousand participants. The funds raised have benefited over 9,200 Hong Chi service users. Part of the funds will be allocated to the “Hong Chi Sports & Arts Academy” and “Arts and Sports Seed Fund”, with the aim to unleash Hong Chi trainees’ arts and sports potentials and help them integrate into society.
During the Address of the ceremony, the Chairman of Hong Chi Association Mr.Owen Chan, thanked the co-organizers, participating companies, groups and sponsors for their strong support over the years, hoping that the public can deepen their understanding of people with intellectual disabilities through this joint participation platform to achieve social inclusion. Afterwards, the Chairman, along with two of Hong Chi Caring Ambassadors - singer Mr.On Chan, expert climber Mr.Chung Kin Man, Mr.Lo King Wai, General Manager of Leasing (Office Leasing Department) from Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited, Ms.Elaine Liu, Group Associate Director & Chief Human Resources Officer from Sino Group, Ms. Joy Chow, Deputy General Manager from Central Plaza Management Co. Limited, Ms. Michelle Lam, the Chairman of Communications and Fund Raising Committee and Ms. Zuie Lin, General Secretary of Hong Chi Association officiated the ceremony and then the emcee Alex Li announced the start of the full-day of intensive and exciting events and competitions.
The highly-anticipated “Hong Chi Climbathon 2023” has attracted over 400 loving members from society in joining different races. Singer On Chan participated in the 29-floor individual race, along with other artists including LuLu Tong, Aki Chan, Hidy Yu, Monnie Lee, Katie Hui, Andrew Pong, Vincent Tang and Valerie Fu competing 75-floor relay in two teams, joining the effort in promoting love and acceptance for people with intellectual disabilities.
The newly added "Family Run" attracted over 35 families with more than 120 parents and children teaming up to take part in this meaningful and challenging charity sports event. It featured the "Sun Hung Kai Properties Family Run Best Costume" to encourage participants to dress up creatively and liven up the atmosphere. Competitions included the " Hong Chi Committee Run", " Interschool Open", 29-floor and 75-floor "Individual", "Team Relay" and "Inclusive Relay". In addition to vying for the “Sino Group Trophy” based on speed, participants could also compete for the " Sun Hung Kai Properties Charity Trophy" with the highest funds raised, integrating sports with charity.
The event was live-streamed online for the first time this year, allowing the public to watch the exciting races while making donations through the website of Hong Chi Association. A carnival was held featuring a music performance and charity sale featuring handicrafts made by our students and trainees, allowing the participants and the public to support them while appreciating their diversified talents.
The event came to close at 4pm. We whole-heartedly would like to thank everyone from all sectors of society in joining the effort of fostering social inclusion. As the first in-person Hong Chi Climbathon resumed in four years, we appreciate your kind understanding of any inconvenience on the day.
