Hong Chi 60th Anniversary Long Run Relay, 388 Participants Unite to Set World Record

(17 March 2025, HONG KONG, CHINA) The "Hong Chi 60th Anniversary Long Run Relay" took place on 15 March, spanning across Hong Kong. A world record for the "Most Participants with Intellectual Disabilities in a Long Run Relay" was set at the event where 388 participants relay-ran and walked 481.76 km, as recognized by the World Record Association. The presentation ceremony was held at Hong Chi Pinehill Village, Tai Po, where Hong Chi Association’s Chairman, Mr. Edward YAU Tang-wah, GBS, JP, presented medals to the Long Run Relay participants. Together with students, members, and parents, he represented Hong Chi Association(HCA) in accepting the World Record Certificate presented by the World Record Association.

To celebrate its 60th anniversary, HCA organized the "Hong Chi 60th Anniversary Long Run Relay". Participants started from multiple locations in the morning, with six routes passing through HCA’s hostels, workshops, service units, and schools in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories. During the final 100 meters of the relay race, Mr. Edward YAU received the torch from a Hong Chi student and led committee members, Hong Chi students and trainees, and event participants across the finish line. Successively, representatives of HCA and runner-representatives participated in a flame-lighting ceremony on stage.

At the ceremony, the World Record Association officially announced the successful establishment of the world record by the "Hong Chi 60th Anniversary Long Run Relay". Chairman, Mr. Edward YAU, along with students, members, and parents, accepted the World Record Certificate on behalf of HCA. Mr. Edward YAU stated, “This relay run not only set a world record but also commemorated the 60th anniversary of the HCA. The event saw participation from individuals with intellectual disabilities, along with their parents, caregivers, and members of the community.” He expressed his hope that the HCA would continue to grow in the future, with increased participation from the community, accompanying Hong Chi children on their journey through life’s promising path.

The "Hong Chi 60th Anniversary Long Run Relay" is not only a significant milestone for HCA but also symbolizes society's inclusion and support for individuals with intellectual disabilities. HCA extends its gratitude to all participants, students, members, and parents for their support and looks forward to working with all sectors of society in the future to realize the ideal of diversity and inclusion.
