Hong Chi Association 60th Anniversary Celebrative Cocktail Reception AND “Journey in Art” Musical Public Performance

In 1965, Hong Chi Association started as a parents’ self-help group serving 4 children with learning difficulties, has since developed into one of the most well-established non-profit organisations in Hong Kong, dedicated to serving people with intellectual disabilities (PIDs) and their families. After 60 years of Flourishing Transformation, Hong Chi Association currently operates 105 service units, providing comprehensive services such as special education, vocational training, and rehabilitation therapy to over 9,700 individuals of varying ages and levels of intellectual disability.

Hong Chi Association is committed to providing high-quality and comprehensive services to our service users, assisting them in realizing their full potential. As times and societal needs change, our service models and directions are continuously updated to meet the individual needs of all service users in a more comprehensive and professional manner. Flourishing Transformation signifies this commitment to leveraging the experience and strengths we have built over the past to create a better future.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary, Hong Chi Association has held a cocktail reception on November 23, 2024 (Saturday) to kick off a series of events.

Hong Chi Association’s Chairman, Mr. Edward YAU Tang-wah, shared: “Today is a very memorable occasion, and I would like to express my special thanks to the Former Chairman and President for their contributions to Hong Chi Association’s achievement over the last 60 years,” he continued, “Moving forward, we will provide services in three areas. First, we will continue to help PIDs discover their talents and unleash their potentials to the fullest. Second, we will strive to enrich PIDs’ lives through arts, culture and sports. Lastly, we will work together to create an inclusive society and deepen public understanding towards PIDs in order to help them fully integrate into the community.

Based on the "Hong Chi Sports and Arts Academy" Seed Fund, aims to nurturing dreams together with all, the Association will continue to develop the talents of persons with intellectual disabilities (PIDs) and expand their exposure through arts and crafts, as well as sports and fitness, with the aim of promoting enriched lives and healthy living. This vision is fully realised in the first significant event of the 60th anniversary celebration series, "Journey in Art," which provides a platform for PIDs to showcase their artistic talents.

Three performances of "Journey in Art" will be staged on November 22 to 24, 2024, at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Ampitheatre of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Over 120 PIDs trainees from 27 Hong Chi service units will take part. The director has re-arranged the musical’s choreography, dialogue, and movements, to suit each performer’s strengths and personality, with the objective to fully unleash their artistic potential. Through the interpretation of art, all can find their own place and showcase their unique charm.

Tickets for "Journey in Art" has sold out almost immediately and created an enthusiastic response. Hong Chi Association sincerely thanks the audience for their support and will continue to uphold the motto of “Children Come First”, providing the best quality service and creating an inclusive environment for PIDs.
