Hong Chi Association received $1.7 billion funding support from the Education Bureau in 2018 to carry out the joint hostel project. The 3-storey joint hostel building of Hong Chi Pinehill Village Schools commenced service in September 2022, providing 60 additional boarding places for students with moderate intellectual disabilities and relocating 60 students with severe intellectual disabilities, in a bid to address the demand for residential services and alleviate the pressure of caregivers at the same time.
The opening ceremony of joint hostel building of Hong Chi Pinehill Village Schools was officiated by Mr. Owen Chan, the Chairman of Hong Chi Association, and Ms. Betty Tsang, the Chairman of the Education Executive Committee on 8th May (Monday) at Pinehill Village.
Mr. Owen Chan stated that the opening ceremony marked the official commencement of service by the two school hostels and the Association will stay in tune with the times and continue to provide diversified and comprehensive services for all ages and all grades of people with intellectual disabilities and strive to nurture our students and trainees to showcase their versatile talents.
Ms. Betty Tsang expressed gratitude for the staunch support from the Education Bureau, the Architectural Services Department, various government departments, building contractors and consultants for the establishment of the new joint hostel. The construction work was delayed due to the epidemic. Fortunately, thanks to the commitment of all parties, the joint hostel finally commenced service in September 2022.
The joint hostel building of Hong Chi Pinehill Village Schools has reached a new milestone in the development of Hong Chi Association. In future, the Hong Chi team will endeavor to uphold our service motto “Children Come First” and provide appropriate services and support to people with intellectual disabilities and their families.
