Hong Chi Trailwalker Team: Never Give Up

Hong Chi Trailwalker Team: Never Give Up

Over the past years, Hong Chi students have actively participated in different local and overseas sport events to showcase their versatile talents, including their participation in Trailwalker for the past 5 years in a row. Last year, 4 Hong Chi students - Chan Hok Lai, Chan Chun Fung and Lam Ho San from Hong Chi Lions Morninghill School, and Tse Wai Yuen from Hong Chi Morninghill School, Tuen Mun, formed the "Hong Chi Trailwalker Team". Accompanied by 3 teachers, the Team completed the 100km trail in 44 hours and 41 minutes, breaking all records ever made by other Hong Chi participants in the past. Behind this Team of 7 was a resourceful support group consisting of over 40 parents, volunteers, teachers and fellow schoolmates. The hot food, drinks and huge encouragement that they provided aided the Team to finish the race. "We hope to take up the challenge and break the record again next year!" said the Team's students.

Hang In There, Don't Give Up

To build up students' physical strength and self-confidence, Hong Chi Lions Morninghill School provides training hikes for secondary students. Started in last September, the training combines a series of cross training exercises, such as stair climbing, long-distance running and practising the race trail into the Team's regular exercise regime. The Team's students, accompanied by teachers, even had to attempt the overnight hike for at least once, in order to finish the trail within 48 hours as required by the event. Through the Trailwalker experience, students have learnt to face challenges with growing resilience and not to give up easily.

In Good Company

Encouragement and tireless support along the trail brought about the biggest motivation that kept the Team moving across the finish line. Apart from the support given by the 3 Hong Chi teachers throughout the race, over 10 loving volunteers also joined the students as companions for the last 50km of the trail. Walking from dusk till dawn, the Trailwalkers often encountered sudden changes in the weather. In the cold and rainy morning, the support group formed by teachers and parents prepared hot food and drinks at different checkpoints. Even the experienced graduates joined the Team in crossing the finish line hand in hand.

The courage and perseverance learnt have not only been valuable for the participating students, but the experience was also unforgettable for the companions that had walked side by side with these students along their amazing journey.
